1. Câu kể/ Câu tường thuật
- Cấu trúc
Khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp là câu kể hoặc câu tường thuật sang câu gián tiếp, chúng ta vận dụng cấu trúc câu gián tiếp sau:
| S + | said | that + | S + V (V lùi 1 thì so với câu trực tiếp) |
- Ví dụ
a. “I’m going to visit Korea next month”, she said.
→ She said that she was going to visit Korea the following month.
b. “He picked me up yesterday”, Hoa said to me.
→ Hoa said to me that he had picked her up the day before.
2. Câu hỏi Yes/No Question
- Cấu trúc
Khi câu trực tiếp là câu hỏi dạng trả lời yes/no question, ta vận dụng cấu trúc câu gián tiếp sau:
| S + | asked | if | + S + V (V lùi một thì so với câu trực tiếp) |
- Ví dụ
a. “Do you love English?”, the teacher asked.
→ The teacher asked me if/whether I loved English.
b. “Have you done your homeworked yet?”, they asked.
→ They asked me if/whether I had done my homework yet.
Lưu ý: Nếu trong câu trực tiếp có từ “OR NOT” thì câu gián tiếp bắt buộc phải dùng WHETHER
Ví dụ: “Does she like roses or not?”, he wondered.
→ He wondered whether she liked roses or not.
3. Câu hỏi Wh-questions
- Cấu trúc
Khi câu trực tiếp là câu hỏi Wh-questions (câu hỏi bắt đầu bằng từ hỏi Wh- What, Where, When, Which, Why, How…). Thì ta vận dụng cấu trúc của câu gián tiếp như sau:
| S + | asked | + Wh-word + S + V (lùi một thì so với câu trực tiếp) |
- Ví dụ
a. "Where do you live, Nam?”, asked she.
-> She asked Nam where he lived.
b. What are you doing?", Nam asked her.
-> Nam asked her what she was doing.
3. Câu cầu khiến
- Cấu trúc
Khi câu trực tiếp là các câu cầu khiến, ta vận dụng cấu trúc sau ở câu gián tiếp:
| S + | asked/told/ordered/advised/wanted/warned | + sb + (not) to Vinf |
- Ví dụ
a. “Open the book page 117, please”,the teacher said.
→ The teacher asked us to open the book page 117.
b. “Don’t touch that dog”, he said.
→ He asked/told me not to touch that dog.
