1. Cấu trúc
- Dưới đây là cấu trúc của đảo ngữ trong câu điều kiện loại 2:
Câu điều kiện: If + S1 + V (chia ở thì quá khứ đơn), S2 + would/might/could… + V nguyên thể
Câu đảo ngữ: Were + S1 + (not) + O, S2 + would/might/could… + V nguyên thể
- Ví dụ:
If I were you, I wouldn't do that -> Were I you, I wouldn't do that.
(Nếu tôi là bạn, tôi sẽ không làm điều đó)
2. Cách dùng
Đảo ngữ trong câu điều kiện loại 2 dùng để chỉ tình huống giả định, không thể xảy ra ở hiện tại, không có thực ở hiện tại:
- Nếu trong câu có động từ “were”, thì đảo “were” lên đầu.
Ví dụ: If I were a bird, I would fly. → Were I a bird, I would fly.
- Nếu trong câu không có động từ “were” thì mượn “were’ và dùng “ to V”
Ví dụ: If I learnt Russian, I would read a Russian book. → Were I to learn Russian, I would read a Russian book.
